Process and Background

The WNC Clean Energy Cluster Analysis is the result of a five-phase study completed by AngelouEconomics between January and August 2011. Over this period, the project team utilized a multi-faceted approach drawing on multiple perspectives in order to develop a clearer picture of clustering and capacity for growth. The cluster identification process included:

  • An exhaustive document review process to ensure this report builds on existing research,
  • An extensive stakeholder engagement and public input process that featured interviews and focus groups with over 120 regional clean energy professionals, and
  • Analysis of technical data from a wide range of sources including NAICS, IMPLAN, US Census, Bureau of Labor Statistics, UN Commodity Trade Statistics Database, USGBC, NREL, and more.
